Smart Goal Counter
How wonderful would it be if we could automatically detect & display the goals we shoot in a netball or basketball ring? Well now you can with the ultrasonic sensor and Arduino.
By the end of this course, you will learn to use the ultrasonic sensor for detecting obstacles and seven segment display for prompting data. During this course you will learn how to create a Smart Goal Counter that can be attached to your netball or basketball ring, so you don’t need to count the goals every time you score.
The solution will automatically detect balls passing through the ring and update the score on the display for you.
This will be achieved using an Arduino and an ultrasonic sensor which are connected to a 4 digit 7 segment display.
The image below shows how the sensor should be attached to a basketball / netball ring.
- Arduino Uno Board

- 4 Digit Seven Segment Display
- Resistors (4x1K Ohms)
- Breadboard and Jump wires
