This is the black version of our Geeky take on Dia de los Muertos, the The Day of the Geek soldering badge kit.

This simple kit shouldn’t take much more than 5 minutes to assemble if you have basic soldering skills and equipment. We’ve included 3 pairs of coloured LEDs so you have the option of Red, White or Blue eyes.

We’ve taken the Day of the Dead motif and replaced many of the elements with a more geek orientated look.

We don’t include a CR2032 battery as the Royal Mail will not carry them so if we included one your package would have to ship by DPD increasing the shipping costs. If you want to add one you can do above but please be aware you will NOT be able to use Royal Mail shipping.

Included:

  • 1 Skull PCB
  • 2 Red LEDs
  • 2 Blue LEDs
  • 2 White LEDs
  • 1 CR2032 Battery holder
  • 1 Pin back

Not Included:

  • CR2032 Battery (you can select one above)
  • Soldering Iron
  • Solder
  • Pliers
  • Flush cutters

Easy to solder and looks amazing. Although the LEDs are really bright so don't stare at them too long :)

Put this together with my 6yo son. It was just about the right level of complexity to hold his attention. Would be useful to have a switch as removing coin cells with a toddler around isn't a great idea. Fashioned one from a thin stiff strip of plastic food packaging and slid it under the battery, then folded down the tabs on the battery holder to keep the battery in place. Worked for us :-)

Looks even better in real life. Bigger than I expected, and the detail is excellent.
Warning: Don't wear in exams - the nose in Ohm's Law :)

I love these. They're high quality and simple for catching the imagination of people who aren't necessarily into 'electronics' and getting them confident with soldering irons.

  5. 4 out of 5

Great value for money BUT the pin / fastener comes off easily even when using 'full lead solder / flux'
