With just two wire connections and a small addition to your code, you can use our Watchdog IC to ensure your project does not hang up if something goes wrong somewhere.
This chip has been designed to act as an external watch dog for Arduino, AVR and PIC based designs.
It works by reading an input, If that input does not read a high signal for the TIMEOUT time, it pulls the RESET pin low for 20mS, which causes the Microcontroller to reset.
The chip defaults to a 60 second TIMEOUT, and this can be changed by pulling one of the timing set pins to ground.
Grounding PIN 5 will give a 10 second TIMEOUT
Grounding PIN 6 will give a 120 second TIMEOUT
Grounding PIN 7 will give a 300 second TIMEOUT
You will need to make a change to your existing project code to speak with our chip.
So add this to your code and call it more often than the time out you select :
